SCARLET at CCA 2025
SCARLET’s Antonio Morandi presented the project at the International Workshop on Coated Conductors for Applications (CCA 2025), which was hosted last month by CERN and the University of Geneva.
His presentation was entitled “HTS power transmission (and distribution): status and prospects” and highlighted the last decade of progress on superconducting power cables. This included the ideas behind using MVDC power transmission as investigated in SCARLET.
The meeting brought together researchers working on all aspects of coated conductors – materials, testing, devices, and applications – in an informal and inspiring setting. One of the aims was to strike a balance between stimulating conductor research towards easier manufacturing, long lengths, and suitability for applications, and the said applications gearing to accept features inherent to coated conductors.
